CAPT SATISH K SHARMA, M.P, PRESIDENT, AERO CLUB OF INDIA (ACI) Capt Satish K Sharma was born on 11th October, 1947 at Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. He had his early education in Delhi followed by Airlines Transport Pilots Rating Course in Kansas city, USA. He is holding ALTP license, CPL, Airlines Transport License Rating issued by FAA. Capt Sharma has been a Commercial Pilot by profession with over 6000 hrs of flying to his credit. He flew DC-3, F-27, HS-748, BE-200 and B-737 aircraft as Commercial Pilot before entering politics. He does hobby flying now to pursue his passion for flying. Capt. Sharma has been Vice-President of Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) for the past 20 years. He was conferred the unique honour i.e. “Companion of Honour” by Federation Aeronautique Internationale in 1990. He is President Aero Club of India (ACI), President Delhi Flying Club (DFC) for the past about 20 years and also a member of Delhi Gliding Club (DGC). Capt Sharma was most trusted, close and confident of late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, in formulation of major Policies and programmes for the development of India. Capt Sharma was elected to Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of Indian Parliament in 1986. He has been closely associated in nursing of Amethi Parliamentary Constituency. He was elected to Lok Sabha (Lower House) of Indian Parliament from Amethi in November, 1991 and May, 1996. He was Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and held this office from January 1993 to March 1996. He was again elected to the Lok Sabha from Rae Bareily Constituency in November 1999. Currently, Capt Sharma is a Member Parliament of Rajya Sabha from Uttaranchal, a northern State of India. Apart from this, he is holding the following positions of eminence: a) Member - Parliamentary Standing Committee for Transport & Tourism; b) Member - Parliamentary Consultative Committee for Aviation; c) Member - Governing Council of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy (IGRUA). Capt Sharma has been taking very active part in the activities of ACI. ACI had nurtured its dream of having its own building which was fulfilled during the presidentship of Capt Sharma in September, 1985. Under his initiative and able guidance, ACI has been submitting, from time to time, various plans to Government of India to obtain grant-in-aid for procurement of equipment for promotion of flying and aerosports in the country. ACI has procured Cessna 152 A trainer aircraft, L-23 Super Blanik Gliders, Dhanush Diesel Glider Launching Winches, Microlight aircraft, Excel Parasails, Aeromodels, Parachute (Skydiving) Systems and Skydiving Judging Equipment. The said equipment is being put to its optimum utility that would go a long way to serve the national cause for promotion of aviation and aerosports in the country. |
